Cal. originally 56-56 rimfire (52 cal.) is converted to centerfire. S#. 40242. Bbl. 22". Dovetail front sight has a replacement brass blade. Folding leaf carbine rear sight. Modern replacement centerfire breech block is marked "BLACK POWDER ONLY". Right side lock & hammer, left side has a saddle ring & bar. Front receiver ring has 3 line address with March 5, 1860 date. Band fastened walnut forend and straight grip stock. Tubular magazine inserts thru steel buttplate. Approx. 50,000 mfg. 1863-1865. CONDITION: metal has faded to brown/gray showing surface corrosion. Forend has worn finish with plug type repairs on the bottom and is missing a large chip along the right bbl. channel. The stock shows scratches, marks, dents & chips with a 3" crack extending from the left side of the buttplate. Functioning action. Mag. tube is complete having a small crack at the front.
